Every year I take about ten students on a field trip where we paint the blades of the Commerce City snowplows. The plows are then part of the homecoming day parade where the high school football team and my art students get to ride in the back and throw candy to the spectators. The Commerce City public works provides all of the paint and supplies needed for this field trip and the police department provides transportation for the kids, rather than having to pay for a bus. This year, the art students were asked to make paintings representing our school mascot Bubba, school spirit, or their interpretation of the homecoming theme “A Night Under The Stars.” My students create amazing work every year and this year was no exception, especially considering that the students were only given about five and a half hours to create the artwork from start to finish. Great job Eagles! Your paintings are amazing!!!
On another exciting note, our football team won the homecoming game 37-0 against Skyview! WooHoo!
