I drew this artwork while sitting at my table during the First Friday Art Walk off of Santa Fe. I always enjoy drawing at shows and one day, I plan to do live painting in front of a gallery in order to help bring people in. While drawing this work, my phones battery died early on in the sketch and I was forced to draw this portrait without the aid of a photograph. This is something that I hardly every do and I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to come with something that I could show to the crowd. To my luck, I was able to create something that seemed to draw a lot of attention and I plan to paint on top of this artwork soon. If I’m successful, this will be the first portrait that I’ve painted without having a photograph as a reference.
I plan to paint the girl’s hair purple and blue with yellow and white flowers in front of it. This artwork will be a tropical or Hawaiian theme and for this reason; the background behind her shoulder will be a sky blue or turquoise. I will also make it look like she is being splashed with water from behind her, as if she is standing in the ocean. Lastly, the bottom corners of the work will have a few graffiti/ graphic design style shapes, so that I can tie this piece in with the rest of the artwork I have already created.
